The best time to post on TikTok has no single answer. Five 2026 studies name about 3 PM and 8 PM in your audience's local time most often, but they disagree on the day (Breakreach, Sept 2026 comparison of Sprout Social, Buffer, Hootsuite, SocialPilot and Metricool).
So use the studies to build a test schedule, then let your own numbers pick the winner. A slot only helps if the clip is finished when it comes up. Upload a raw take and get your first clip cut free, no card needed.
What the big studies say
Three of the studies publish enough detail to compare. Dates are as published.
| Study | Data | What it ranks | Best times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buffer (published Sep 14, 2026) | 7.1M TikTok posts | Median engagement rate | Sunday 9 AM is the top slot, then Monday 1 PM and Sunday 1 PM. Saturday is the best day, then Monday and Sunday. Engagement peaks 6-11 PM. Afternoons (12-5 PM) are lowest on most days. |
| Sprout Social (March 2026) | Nearly 2B engagements, 307,000 profiles, Nov 27 2025 to Feb 27 2026, all networks | Total engagements | Tuesday to Thursday, 2-6 PM. Weekends are the worst, and Sunday is the worst day. |
| Metricool (June 11, 2026) | 2,314,756 posts from 92,000+ accounts | Views | 6-8 PM has the heaviest views all week. 8 PM is the top slot most days. Sunday 8 PM is the single highest point. 2-4 AM is a dead zone. |
Look at Sunday. Buffer's top slot is Sunday 9 AM. Metricool's highest point is Sunday 8 PM. Sprout calls Sunday the worst day. These are three different answers to one question.
Sprout also lists an industry breakdown. Its Retail rows are the closest match for product videos: Mon 3-5 PM, Tue 1-5, Wed 12-6, Thu 12 and 2-5, Fri 12 and 2-4.
Buffer's top slot for each day, if you want a full week to pull from:
- Mon 1 PM
- Tue 6 AM
- Wed 10 PM
- Thu 1 PM
- Fri 6 PM
- Sat 5 PM
- Sun 9 AM
Why the studies disagree
Breakreach points to two differences:
- What they count. Sprout counts total engagements. Buffer uses median engagement rate. Metricool ranks by views.
- Which posts they use. Sprout and Hootsuite pool every network. Buffer, SocialPilot and Metricool use TikTok posts only.
Each has a strength worth using. Hootsuite reports its times in local time, so you can read them against your audience's clock without converting. SocialPilot uses TikTok posts only and says its times work in any time zone, so you can use them as published. Buffer gives a top slot for every day of the week. Metricool ranks by views, which is the number you can see on each post.
Each study's best time is a slot to test. None of them is a rule for your account.
How much does timing matter?
Less than most posts about it suggest. eClincher (July 21, 2026) says timing matters less on TikTok than on other platforms, and Buffer's article treats it as a boost.
eClincher gives the reasoning. TikTok first shows a video to a small group, then can keep spreading it for 24 hours or more. The first hour still counts, so post when some of your audience is online.
Three rules from the same article:
- Avoid the weekday 10 AM-2 PM lull.
- Don't post several videos within 3 hours of each other.
- Aim for 2-5 posts a week. eClincher cites Buffer's 11.4M-post analysis: that range gives the clearest lift, with diminishing returns past 5.
Find your own times on your phone
TikTok shows when your followers are active. Per Buffer, the path is:
- Open your profile.
- Open TikTok Studio.
- Tap Analytics, then "View all".
- Open the Followers tab.
- Look at Most active times.
This shows the past week only. Check it on a few different weeks. Post slightly before the peak, so the video is live when your audience opens the app.
Convert every slot to your audience's time zone. Sprout and Hootsuite report local time. Buffer and SocialPilot say their times work in any zone. Metricool doesn't say. If your followers are mostly in Eastern time and you film in Pacific time, a 3 PM Eastern slot is 12 PM for you.
A two-week test to find your best time to post on TikTok
This is Breakreach's method, with the numbers filled in:
- Pick 3 slots from different groups, for example Tue 3 PM, Thu 8 PM and Sun 9 AM.
- Post similar videos of similar length in each slot.
- Compare views per post against your own median. A post at 2x your median marks a strong slot.
- Keep the winner and replace the weakest slot.
- Re-test monthly.
If you run all five slots from the schedule below for two weeks, each slot gets two posts. That is a small sample. Treat the result as a lead.
Worked example: one filming session, five slots
The schedule below uses one slot per study group, each taken from a study above:
| Slot | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Tue 3 PM | Inside Sprout's Tue 2-6 PM window and its Retail Tue 1-5 PM row |
| Wed 8 PM | Metricool: 8 PM is the top slot most days |
| Thu 8 PM | Metricool: same 8 PM slot, different day |
| Sat 5 PM | Buffer's top slot for Saturday, its best day |
| Sun 9 AM | Buffer's single best slot |
That is 5 posts a week, the top of the 2-5 range eClincher cites. No two posts fall within 3 hours of each other.
Now the editing bill. TikTok Shop Academy suggests filming 5-10 videos in one session. Say you film 5 takes, each a 4-minute talking-head take with pauses, an "um" and a retake or two.
- Raw footage: 5 x 4:00 = 20:00 on camera.
- Hand-trimming: time yourself on one take. As an illustration, say it takes 20 minutes. Then 5 takes x 20 minutes = 100 minutes, or 1 hour 40 minutes, before the first post is queued.
- Swap in your own number. At 10 minutes a take it is 50 minutes. At 30 it is 2 hours 30 minutes.
That is your weekly editing time, spent before anything is scheduled. If one take runs late, its slot waits.
If you would rather skip that hour or two, this site's editor handles the cutting. You upload one raw take from your phone's camera roll or your computer, and get back a cut clip. It cuts pauses, filler words such as "um", retakes, and spoken "Clip N" slates. A take can be up to 5 minutes long and up to 2 GB. Upload one of your takes and get the first clip cut free, no card needed.
It does not add captions, music, b-roll, effects or transitions, so add those yourself if you use them.
Put a number on one sale
The commission rate is the part you fill in. The rates below are made-up illustrations of the arithmetic. They are not TikTok rates. Use the rate shown for your product.
| Illustrative rate | Commission on one $30 sale |
|---|---|
| 5% | $1.50 |
| 10% | $3.00 |
| 15% | $4.50 |
The formula is $30 x your rate. At the 10% row, ten sales is $30. A good slot does not promise views or sales.
Queue the week with TikTok's scheduler
Film and edit on one day, say Monday, then queue all five. Sunday is 6 days out, inside both limits below. Facts as of Oct 22, 2026:
- Normal posts. TikTok For Business's Video Scheduler takes posts 15 minutes to 10 days ahead, from the web upload page. The time zone defaults to your computer's. You can't edit the video, caption or time after scheduling. You delete and re-upload instead. The page says desktop scheduling needs a Business Account.
- Shoppable videos. TikTok Shop Academy (US, dated 08/27/2026) says you can schedule 30 minutes to 30 days ahead, up to 50 per account. The path is More options → Advanced settings → Schedule post. Product links can't be edited after scheduling. The page says this is available to all TikTok Shop sellers. It does not say affiliates, so check your own account for the option.
Download your finished clips when you get them. Uploaded videos are deleted 7 days after upload and finished clips 30 days after they are made.
Your next five steps
- Check Most active times in TikTok Studio and write down the peak hour.
- Film 5 takes in one session.
- Trim each take into a vertical clip, and time how long one takes.
- Queue the five slots in the schedule, converted to your audience's time zone.
- After two weeks, compare views per post to your median and replace the weakest slot. More posts on this are in the blog.
Start with step 3. Upload a raw take and get the first clip cut free, no card.
