TikTok Shop Affiliate Program: Join, Limits and a 30-Day Plan

October 22, 2026 · 9 min read

The tiktok shop affiliate program lets approved creators add shoppable links to videos, LIVEs and their profile showcase for products from the TikTok Shop Product Marketplace, and earn a commission on orders that come through that content. In the US you need to be 18 or older with at least 1,000 followers, and if you have under 5,000 followers you start a pilot of at least 30 days with a cap of 3 shoppable product videos per day.

If you would rather film than trim, upload a raw take and get your first clip cut free, no card needed. The rest of this article covers the rules, then works out your first 30 days with real numbers.

All rules below come from TikTok Shop Academy pages for the US, checked on 2026-10-22. Where a number comes from a third-party guide, I say so and give the date.

Who qualifies for the program

The Creator Eligibility Policy (09/25/2026) sets these requirements for a US Affiliate Creator:

Government, politician and political party accounts cannot join.

There are three creator types:

TypeFollower minimumWhat it can do
Affiliate1,000, and you self-applyPromotes marketplace products
MarketingNone to self-sell; 5,000 to use the marketplaceBound to a seller
Official ShopNoneBound to one shop, promotes only that shop, no marketplace access

How to join on your phone

  1. Open your profile and tap TikTok Studio.
  2. Open the Monetization tab.
  3. Tap TikTok Shop for Creator.
  4. Tap Join now.
  5. Confirm your age. You have 2 months from registering and up to 15 attempts: 3 by in-app recognition, 6 by credit card and 6 by real-time ID plus selfie.

Those steps are from TikTok's own page. Shopify's guide adds a shortcut: search "Creator Search Insights" in the app to see which requirements you already meet (Shopify, checked 2026-10-22).

Identity verification can be requested after your first commission, and you need it before you can withdraw. It asks for your full name, date of birth, address, and the front and back of a government ID, with up to 10 attempts. One ID can verify up to 5 creator accounts.

The first 30 days: pilot limits

Creators under 5,000 followers start the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program. TikTok's rules for it:

To graduate you need at least 5,000 followers and at least 30 days in the program. Some limits can lift early if you pass the pilot quiz, keep a Creator Health Rating of 176 or more, and do one of these: 6 or more shoppable videos of at least 8 seconds, 1 or more LIVE of at least 5 minutes, or 10 or more orders in 30 days.

What counts against your quota

TikTok contradicts itself on the cap

The same Creator Eligibility Policy page says 3 shoppable videos per day in its pilot section. Its FAQ says creators under 5,000 followers can post "up to 5 shoppable videos per week." Check your own number in the app under Creator Center > Settings > Creator Pilot Program, and plan around that.

Separately, since May 11, 2026, all US creators and merchants can post up to 30 shoppable short videos and 60 shoppable photo posts per day. A pilot account stays under its own lower cap.

How the tiktok shop affiliate program pays you

The formula, from TikTok's affiliate orders FAQ:

Commission = (Revenue − Refunds) × Commission Rate

A cancelled or fully refunded order earns nothing. "Est. commission" in the app is an estimate, and if you are under a tiered order threshold it shows the lower tier.

Who sets the rate: sellers do. TikTok's pages I checked give no typical rate, so these are third-party figures:

When it arrives: per the official rule effective April 15, 2025, commission usually lands on the 15th day after delivery. It can take up to 31 days if the seller's settlement is longer, or if there is a dispute, refund or return. Third-party guides say 14 days or 8–14 days; go by the official page.

How you withdraw: local-only commissions can be withdrawn manually at any time. Once you have any cross-border commissions, payouts are auto-withdrawn every Wednesday.

Worked example: your first 30 days

This is arithmetic on the rules above. It is not a forecast of sales or income.

Step 1: turn the cap into a schedule

If your cap is 3 shoppable product videos per day, the most you can post is:

If your in-app quota says 5 per week instead, the most is 5 per week, about 20 over four weeks. Use the number your app shows.

Two ways to film 21 videos a week:

PlanFilmingPosting
Daily3 takes each day3 posts each day
Batch21 takes in one session, say SundaySchedule through the week

Remember that scheduling uses up quota right away, so a batch scheduled on Sunday for Monday through Sunday counts against that week at once, and the Monday reset applies.

Step 2: commission on a $30 product

Take a $30 product with no refund:

Commission ratePer unrefunded saleIf refunded
10%$3.00$0
13%$3.90$0
15%$4.50$0

The math at 13%: ($30 − $0) × 0.13 = $3.90. Those three rates sit inside the third-party ranges above. Your seller sets the real one.

Step 3: when the money shows up

Say an order is delivered on day 6 of your pilot. The usual payout is the 15th day after delivery, which is day 21. The latest, under the 31-day case, is day 37. This is an illustration with a made-up delivery day. An order placed late in your 30 days can pay out after the pilot ends.

Step 4: add your trimming time

Every capped slot needs a finished take, so editing time scales with the cap. The formula is minutes per take × takes per day × 30 days. The minutes per take below are your estimate to fill in. No source gives a figure, so I used three round numbers:

Your minutes per takePer day (3 takes)Over 30 days (90 takes)
515 min450 min (7.5 hours)
1030 min900 min (15 hours)
1545 min1,350 min (22.5 hours)

Time a real take today. Start a stopwatch when you open the raw file and stop when it is ready to post. Do that for three takes and average them.

The pilot caps how many videos you can post. You can film as many takes as you like, and every capped slot still needs an edited one. At 10 minutes a take, a full 30 days is 15 hours of trimming before you have posted anything that sells.

If that number is too high, upload one raw take and get the first clip cut free, no card needed. You upload one raw take from your phone's camera roll or your computer, and get back a cut clip. The editor cuts pauses, filler words such as "um", retakes, and spoken "Clip N" slates. A take can be up to 5 minutes long and up to 2 GB.

Editing and product rules to know before you film

Straight trimming is fine. TikTok prohibits combining clips to hide violating content, such as AB-frame switching. It can cost you Creator Health Rating points and e-commerce permissions. Straight trimming of a talking-head take is not affected.

Some categories are gated. The Affiliate Creator Product Selection Policy (09/30/2026) says 17 categories need extra eligibility. Its page says "17 specified" but lists 18. Twelve fall under general criteria: a PPS of 3.5 or more and a CHR of 150 or more. Six supplement and wellness-type categories need either a recent sales record or consistently high-quality content. Some categories are invite-only. As a pilot creator you are also limited to shops with a performance score of 95% or higher.

Plan your hands-off edit. The editor does not add captions, music, b-roll, effects or transitions. If you want any of those, add them yourself in the TikTok app before you post. The finished clip is 1080×1920 (vertical 9:16) with sound in sync, ready for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. Uploaded videos are deleted 7 days after upload and finished clips 30 days after they are made, so download your clips.

Plans after the first clip are listed on the pricing page. More guides for affiliates are on the blog.

Before your pilot starts, film one take, time how long the trim takes you, and then upload a raw take and get the first clip cut free, no card needed.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost anything to join the TikTok Shop affiliate program?

No. NestScale's 2026 guide says joining is free for creators. Your costs are your own time and any product you buy for filming.

Can I join with fewer than 1,000 followers?

Not as an Affiliate Creator, which needs 1,000 followers. A Marketing creator is bound to a seller and has no follower minimum to self-sell. An Official Shop creator is bound to one shop and has no minimum. Both are restricted compared with an Affiliate.

Do I have to disclose that my video is an affiliate promotion?

NestScale says FTC endorsement rules require disclosure and recommends TikTok's built-in affiliate or sponsored labels. Use those labels on every shoppable video.

What happens if a seller lowers the commission after I post?

Hamster Garage, a third-party guide, says you keep the old rate for 30 days. It says you lose that if you remove the product from your showcase or delete the video. TikTok's pages I checked do not state this, so confirm in your own order details.

How do I see which requirements I still need to meet?

Shopify's guide says to search "Creator Search Insights" in the TikTok app. It shows which requirements you meet and which you do not.
