Quick answer on how long can a tiktok video be: up to 10 minutes when you record with TikTok's in-app camera, and up to 60 minutes when you upload a file from your device. Longer upload limits roll out by account and region, so your app may cap lower (Blitzcut, FlowShorts, Sociality, all checked October 22, 2026).
A Shop product video runs well under either number. The time cost sits in trimming the raw take. If you would rather film than trim, upload a raw take to this site's editor and get the first clip cut free, no card.
The limits in one table
| Limit | Number | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Record in the TikTok app | Up to 10 minutes | Third-party guides above |
| Upload from your device | Up to 60 minutes, rolling out by account and region | Third-party guides above |
| Minimum length | 3 seconds | Blitzcut and FlowShorts, not confirmed on a TikTok page |
| Shoppable video, one early route out of the pilot | 8 seconds or longer per video | TikTok Shop US Creator Eligibility Policy |
The asterisk on the 60-minute figure
The 60-minute number comes from third-party guides. Kavel (updated Aug 1, 2026) points out that TikTok publishes no single official page stating it. The only change Kavel can date to a TikTok announcement is the raise to 10 minutes in February 2022.
TikTok's Camera tools help page did not load when I checked, so I am not attributing 60 minutes to TikTok. Open your own camera and look at the duration selector. That is your real limit today.
How long can a tiktok video be if you sell on TikTok Shop?
The Shop rules limit posting volume. These numbers come from TikTok Shop's Creator Eligibility Policy (US, updated 09/25/2026, checked October 22, 2026). They apply to the US only.
- Affiliate Creators need at least 1,000 followers.
- Affiliates under 5,000 followers start in a pilot program of at least 30 days. During it you can post up to 3 shoppable product videos a day and 3 shoppable LIVEs a week.
- One early route out of the pilot is publishing 6 or more shoppable videos, each at least 8 seconds long.
- Extended Pilot creators get up to 3 shoppable videos a week.
- Since May 11, 2026, every US creator and merchant is capped at 30 shoppable short videos and 60 shoppable photo posts a day.
Nothing in that policy sets a maximum length for a product video.
Worked example: a 3-video-a-day pilot
Say you are under 5,000 followers and in the 30-day pilot. You post the daily maximum of 3 shoppable videos.
| Period | Videos |
|---|---|
| 1 day | 3 |
| 1 week | 21 |
| 30 days | 90 |
Now your own trim time. This is an assumption you fill in: X minutes to trim one take by hand in your phone's trim slider.
The formula is X minutes × 3 takes a day × 30 days = 90 × X minutes a month, or 1.5 × X hours.
| If you spend (assumption) | Hours a month trimming 90 takes |
|---|---|
| 5 minutes per take | 7.5 hours |
| 10 minutes per take | 15 hours |
| 15 minutes per take | 22.5 hours |
Time your next three trims with a stopwatch and use that number. A raw talking-head take of 2 to 3 minutes with pauses, retakes and a spoken slate takes longer to trim than most people guess. Three takes a day at 2.5 minutes each is 7.5 minutes of raw footage a day, about 225 minutes over the 30 days. You scrub through all of it.
Now the commission side, on a $30 product. The rate below is a hypothetical seller-set rate for the math. It is not a source figure. Check the real rate on each product's listing.
| Item | Math |
|---|---|
| Product price | $30 |
| Hypothetical commission rate | 10% |
| Commission per sale | $3 |
| 10 sales | $30 |
| 100 sales | $300 |
This promises no sales. It shows the scale. At $3 a sale, 15 hours of monthly trimming is a cost you can price against your own hourly number.
If those trim hours look too high, upload a raw take and get your first clip cut free, no card.
What the editor does with a take
This site's editor takes one raw take from your phone's camera roll or your computer and gives you back a cut clip. It cuts pauses, filler words such as "um", retakes, and spoken "Clip N" slates. A take can be up to 5 minutes long and up to 2 GB, so a 2 to 3 minute take fits.
The finished clip is 1080×1920 (vertical 9:16) with sound in sync, ready for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. It does not add captions, music, b-roll, effects or transitions. Add those in TikTok if you want them.
For context on dead air, Blitzcut says it is typically 10 to 20% of a talking-head recording. That is a third-party claim about recordings in general.
Steps on your phone: record or upload
These follow TikTok's Making a post help page in the TikTok Help Center, checked October 22, 2026.
- Tap Add post (+).
- Pick a maximum length, or tap Upload to add a video from your device.
- To record, film and tap the ✓.
- Edit, then post.
If you upload in a web browser, the whole video is uploaded. To change its length, upload it in the TikTok app instead.
Film in your phone's own camera and upload the file. That skips the 10-minute in-app cap and keeps an original you can trim. It is the usual workflow for a talking-head affiliate anyway.
Why a sound can shorten your video
If you pick a sound before you record, the video can be limited to that sound's duration. Sociality, Kavel and FlowShorts all report this. Record first, then add audio afterward.
Which length suits a product video
These are third-party benchmarks. None is a TikTok rule.
- 21 to 34 seconds: the often-repeated sweet spot (FlowShorts; Sociality credits a WIRED report).
- 30 to 90 seconds: FlowShorts' range for product reviews.
- 30 to 60 seconds: Sociality's suggestion for a demo with 2 to 3 steps.
Kavel and Blitzcut both say completion rate matters more than raw length. A tight 25-second video that people watch to the end beats a loose 60-second one.
The one-minute rule belongs to Creator Rewards
You may see "over one minute" quoted. That is a monetization rule for the Creator Rewards Program. MakeViral reports, checking against TikTok's Creator Academy page on Sep 15, 2026, that it pays only on original videos over one minute with at least 1,000 For You feed views. It excludes ads, paid promotions and sponsored content. That is a third-party report, so verify it on TikTok's page before you plan around it. A Shop clip does not need to be 60 seconds.
File specs that fail uploads more than length does
- 1080×1920 at 9:16
- MP4 or MOV
- H.264 video with AAC audio
Mobile file-size figures conflict. FlowShorts and Sociality say 287.6 MB on iOS and 72 MB on Android. Blitzcut says about 500 MB. Test with your own phone before a batch.
If a take runs long
- Cut the slow opening first.
- Split the take into parts.
- Upload from desktop if the phone fights you (Kavel).
For a by-hand trim on iPhone, see how to edit videos on iPhone. Once the clips are posted, the best time to post on TikTok has a 5-slot test schedule.
Film your next three takes, then upload one raw take and get the first clip cut free, no card. Download your clips when they are ready: uploaded videos are deleted 7 days after upload and finished clips 30 days after they are made.
