With tiktok shop affiliate marketing, you tag a seller's product in a video or LIVE and earn a commission, set by the seller, when a viewer buys inside TikTok. In the US you apply yourself, you need at least 1,000 followers, and while you are under 5,000 followers you can post 3 shoppable videos a day.
If you would rather film than trim, upload a raw take to this site's editor and get the first clip cut free, no card.
Everything below uses TikTok's own US rules, checked on 2026-10-22. Where a number comes from a third-party guide instead, I say so.
How tiktok shop affiliate marketing pays you
TikTok's affiliate page tells creators to recommend products in videos and LIVE streams and get paid commission on sales. Pattern describes checkout, attribution and payouts all happening inside the platform. You never handle an order.
The seller sets your rate. TikTok says to check the estimated commission on each product's detail page before you promote it. The third-party ranges below are estimates and carry no TikTok authority:
- SellerApp says 10–15% for open or test offers and 20–30% for creators who post repeatedly.
- Hamster Garage gives a 13.02% US average, open collaboration at 10–15% and targeted offers at 18–25%, up to 50%. It also says commission is calculated on the price the buyer actually pays after seller and TikTok discounts.
Hamster Garage also says your rate is locked for 30 days after you start promoting a product, and that removing the product from your showcase or deleting the related content resets it to the current rate. I did not find that on a TikTok page today, so treat it as their claim.
Who can join in the US
TikTok's Creator Eligibility Policy (updated 09/25/2026) says Affiliate Creators must:
- Self-apply.
- Have at least 1,000 followers.
- Be 18 or older.
- Be based in the US.
- Pass Creator Identity Verification.
- Have no prior revoked e-commerce permissions.
Many third-party pages, including the main text of SellerApp's guide, still say 5,000 followers. TikTok's policy says 1,000. The 5,000 line is where the pilot program ends, covered below.
Under 1,000 followers there is another way in. A seller can bind you as an Official Shop Creator or Marketing Creator with no follower minimum. An Official Shop Creator can only promote the shop they are bound to. A Marketing account needs 5,000 followers to promote other sellers' marketplace products.
How to apply on your phone
TikTok's What You Need to Know page (updated 10/09/2026) gives this path:
- Open your profile.
- Tap TikTok Studio.
- Open the Monetization tab.
- Tap TikTok Shop for Creator.
- Tap Join now.
You have to apply yourself. Verification takes a few minutes, and your status shows in Inbox > System.
The limits on a new affiliate account
Under the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program (policy and intro dated 05/13/2026), affiliates under 5,000 followers are enrolled automatically for at least 30 days. The limits:
- 3 shoppable videos per day.
- 3 shoppable LIVEs per week.
- Products only from shops with a 95%+ Shop Performance Score.
- No campaigns.
If TikTok tags you as an Extended Pilot Creator, the limit drops to 3 shoppable videos per week and 1 LIVE per week. You cannot graduate while that tag stays on. For the money side across TikTok, see How to Make Money on TikTok.
One inconsistency: an FAQ line on the What You Need to Know page still says creators under 5,000 followers can post 5 shoppable videos per week. The pilot intro page explains that was the old limit, changed to 3 per day for affected creators from April 29, 2026. Use 3 a day.
To graduate, reach 5,000 followers and stay in the program at least 30 days. There is an early partial release: a Creator Health Rating of at least 176 points, a passed probation quiz, and one of these:
- 6 or more shoppable videos at least 8 seconds long.
- One LIVE of 5 minutes or more.
- 10 orders.
Even after the early release, the 3-videos-a-day limit stays until full graduation. Separately, since May 11, 2026, all US creators and merchants can post up to 30 shoppable short videos and 60 shoppable photo posts per day.
Which posts use up a slot
This is the rule that changes how you edit. From TikTok's pilot pages:
| Action | Uses a slot? |
|---|---|
| Posting a shoppable video | Yes, including private ones |
| Scheduling a shoppable video | Yes, the moment you schedule it |
| Deleting a shoppable video | Still counts that week |
| Adding a product link to an old video | Yes |
| Saving a draft | No |
| A failed upload | No |
| A regular video with no product link | No |
The quota refreshes Monday at midnight PST. You can see it under Creator Center > Settings > Creator Pilot Program.
A post you delete after spotting a long pause or a flubbed line has already used its slot. Finish the take before you publish.
Worked example: a $30 product against a 3-a-day cap
Start with the cap. 3 shoppable videos a day is up to 21 a week.
Next, the commission on a $30 product, before any discounts:
| Rate | Where the number comes from | Per sale on $30 |
|---|---|---|
| 10% | Low end of the 10–15% range (SellerApp, Hamster Garage) | $3.00 |
| 13% | Roughly the 13.02% US average (Hamster Garage, third-party) | $3.90 |
| 15% | High end of the 10–15% range | $4.50 |
| 20% | Low end of the 20–30% range for repeat posters (SellerApp) | $6.00 |
This projects no sales. It shows what one sale is worth, so you can judge what a take is worth your time.
Your own number is the minutes it takes you to trim one take by hand. Cutting the dead air at the start, the filler, the retakes and the "Clip 2" slate you said out loud all count. Time yourself on your next three takes and use the average. The formula is takes per week × minutes per take ÷ 60.
| Minutes to trim one take | Per day (3 takes) | Per week (21 takes) |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 15 min | 1.75 hours |
| 8 | 24 min | 2.8 hours |
| 10 | 30 min | 3.5 hours |
| 15 | 45 min | 5.25 hours |
| 20 | 60 min | 7 hours |
At 10 minutes a take, a full 21-video week costs 3.5 hours of trimming, on top of filming. At 20 minutes, it is 7 hours. If you post fewer than 3 a day, multiply by your real number of takes instead of 21.
If that total is more than you want to spend, upload a raw take to this site's editor and the first clip is cut free, no card needed.
Trim before you post, and keep the edit honest
Deleted posts still use a slot, so the order is: film, trim, check, then publish. You can also keep a take in drafts, which does not count.
TikTok warns against combining videos to hide violating content, such as AB frames or frame manipulation, and against re-uploading removed content in an altered form. It says this can lead to permanent loss of e-commerce permissions. That rule targets hiding violations. Cutting pauses and retakes from your own take is ordinary editing.
The editor on this site cuts pauses, filler words such as "um", retakes, and spoken "Clip N" slates. It does not add captions, music, b-roll, effects or transitions, so add anything like that yourself. If you want to trim by hand first, see How to Edit Videos on iPhone.
What to film
The sources agree on a few formats, with no promises attached. SellerApp and Hamster Garage point to product-in-hand demos, problem and solution stories, and POVs that make the benefit clear in the first seconds. brandID suggests products in the $15–$50 range and products whose use is clear in under 5 seconds. A $30 product sits inside that range.
Getting paid
A commission account, with personal and tax info, is separate from your creator account. Identity verification is usually requested after your first commission. Product links may be hidden while verification runs, and you cannot withdraw until you are verified. One ID can verify up to 5 creator accounts.
Payout timing differs by source. Hamster Garage says settlement every 14 days. brandID says 15 to 30 days after delivery. Neither is a TikTok rule, so check your own account.
Steps to follow on your phone today
- Check your follower count and creator type. Under 1,000 followers, ask whether a seller can bind you, or keep building.
- Apply: Profile > TikTok Studio > Monetization > TikTok Shop for Creator > Join now.
- Set up your commission account early, so verification does not hide your product links later.
- During the pilot, pick products from shops with a 95%+ Shop Performance Score. Check the estimated commission on each product page.
- Film the take, trim it, and watch it through once before you publish. Deleted posts still use a slot.
- Check your quota under Creator Center > Settings > Creator Pilot Program.
Your next raw take can go to this site's editor to get the first clip cut at no charge, with no card.
